I stayed for about a week at 1900 Backpackers Hostel in Lima, because I was unwell. The mattress was good and the showers were powerful, and it was a really comfortable place to be ill! You can read about my time in centro Lima here.
+ basic breakfast included (bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee)
+ more fancy breakfasts available to purchase (eggs, pancakes, fruit salad)
+ they have a guest kitchen
Hot water: yes
+ housed in a beautiful mansion with high ceilings and lovely original features
+ in walking distance of Old Lima´s main sites and a Metropolitano station
+ many little shops and restaurants next to the hostel
– on a busy main road and the traffic is noisy all the time
+ small lockers with a plug socket inside
+ big lockers large enough to contain your rucksack in the dorms
Price per dorm bed: about 33 soles upwards, depending on the number of beds in the dorm. Privates also available.
+ buzzer entry to front door
+ 24 hour reception
+ you have to walk past reception to enter the hostel which makes it hard for non-guests to enter unnoticed
Welcome: All staff speak English and the hostel has a relaxed atmosphere
– only in the living room area, not in the dorms
Extras: travel agency office, bar with cool interior design and lovely little balconies in each of the windows, pool table and table football, TV room, payment in US dollars accepted

Address: Avenida Garcilazo de la Vega 1588, Centro Lima, Peru
Tip: The hostel is hard to find when you arrive at night. The heavy, secure front door looks uninviting and the sign with the hostel´s name is very dark. Even in the daytime I used to walk past the front door by mistake! If you come by taxi, ask the driver to drive slowly along block 15 of Avenida Garcilazo de la Vega (opposite the huge MALI art museum) so that you can look hard for a round sign with ´1900´ in big writing.
