El Panecillo is a hill just south of Quito’s centro historico. It is home to a huge statue of the Virgin and I climbed to the summit last weekend.
It is only tourists, however, that are interested in the statue. Locals flock here for another reason.
It was really windy at about 3000m and hoards of Quiteños were flying kites. The kite in the photo looked heavy and I didn’t think the man would be able to get it in the air, but soon it was high in the sky!
The colourful kites, the bright sunshine, and the impressive views of Quito were beautiful.
