Photo of the week: week 14 Guatape

This is Guatape, a village near Medellin in the heart of Colombia. I found out about Guatape on Instagram – the colourful streets looked so cute that I had to squeeze a visit in to my recent trip to the country.     It is a quiet little place, with not a lot to do other than enjoy the cobbled streets and brightly-coloured houses. Which I did! … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 14 Guatape

Photo of the week: week 13 Cocora Valley Colombia🌴

These are wax palms, the national tree of Colombia. I went to the Cocora Valley, or el Valle de Cocora near Salento to check them out. This national park is located in the Andes and is where the palms grow most abundantly.   They really are unbelievably tall, reaching as high as 60m! It was an impressive sight and the thick fog made the spectacle all … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 13 Cocora Valley Colombia🌴

photo of the week: week 12 Santuario de las Lajas ⛪️

This incredible church is el Santuario de las Lajas (Las Lajas Sanctuary) in Ipiales, Colombia. Ipiales is just across the border from Ecuador, and being a big fan of churches – as you will know if you follow me on Instagram – I decided to cross to Colombia by land in order to check out this church. It is in a steep valley, a dramatic setting that adds to the … Continue reading photo of the week: week 12 Santuario de las Lajas ⛪️

Photo of the week: week 11 Quito’s rooftops

For fantastic views over Quito, I suggest you climb the Basilica. The entry fee to the towers is only $2 and is a fun activity for anyone. The stairs get quite steep at the top but your efforts will be rewarded by the views over Quito´s rooftops and the mountains that surround the city. There is a pretty looking cafe at the top of the … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 11 Quito’s rooftops

Photo of the week: week 10 fruit and veg like you’ve never imagined 🍅🍍🍉🍌

This is Iñaquito, a large market in Quito near the Carolina Park. You can buy pretty much everything there; fish, meat, herbs, dried foods, kitchen utensils, but I prefer the fruit and veg section the most. I have been in Ecuador for a while now but I am still frequently amazed by the size, flavour and variety of the fruit and vegetables here! Being amazed … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 10 fruit and veg like you’ve never imagined 🍅🍍🍉🍌

Photo of the week: week 9 retro restaurant 🍔🍟

Pin Up is a retro-themed American-style diner in La Floresta, one of my favourite areas of Quito. I used to walk past it on my route to work from Guapulo to La Mariscal and its snazzy look always caught my eye. One evening I had an hour to wait before a flat viewing, which finally gave me an opportunity to check it out. I loved … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 9 retro restaurant 🍔🍟

Photo of the week: week 8 being nosy

I took this photo as I nosed around the home of Quito artist Yolanda Cárdenas, rather quickly as I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to. Her house was open to the public as part of an open artists’ studios event in Quito. I thought her house was lovely and the light fitting beautiful! See more photos of this home and of other La Florestra’s … Continue reading Photo of the week: week 8 being nosy
