Community Hostel is a hostel with a conscience, donating 10% from each guest’s stay to the local community. There is certainly a community atmosphere; guests and staff congregate around the large dining room table
where everyone plans their onward journies and shares tips and experiences
– not included
+ available to purchase
+ guest kitchen available
Hot water: yes, and great water pressure.
Location: Community Hostel is in the downtown area of Quito, or Centro Historico, very near to Marin bus station. The location is ideal for sight-seeing.
+ large lockers in the rooms
+ little lockers by the front door
Rooms: I stayed in a 6 bed dormitory and the beds were nice and big
Price per dorm bed: from 10 dollars a night upwards, depending on the number of beds. Private rooms are also available.
Community Hostel is secure. You have to be buzzed in, there is a security camera at the front door, and I felt safe there.
Welcome: the staff were great at Community Hostel. They all spoke English and were all happy to help with any questions at any time of day. They recommended a launderette down the street which provided the best laundry service in the whole of my South American experience, they advised me on bus times, and they called a taxi for my friend who was leaving late.
+ several networks so that the whole of the hostel is covered.
The hostel was closed for maintenance works the weekend after I left, and the friendly owner Marco told me that they were planning to install more bathrooms, open a roof terrace and repaint the whole interior.
Stars: **** I award Community Hostel 4/5 stars
