Review: Pariwana Hostel, Miraflores, Lima, Peru

I stayed at Pariwana Cusco during my first trip to Peru in 2013 and thought it was the best hostel ever. When I was in Lima this time around, I found out that there was one in Miraflores and moved straight there. It was just as great! I stayed at Pariwana for about two weeks. It is so comfortable and so well-situated that I struggled to bring myself to leave. Read aboout my time in Lima here and here.

+ basic breakfast included (bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee)
+ more fancy breakfasts available to purchase such as pancakes, fruit salad, eggs
+ available from 8 am – 12 noon (if you get up really early you can go twice!)
+ guest kitchen

Hot water: yes and the showers are excellent. The bathrooms are dotted about the hostel so you don´t have walk far to the toilet in the night.

+ in the heart of Miraflores
+ a short walk to the beach
– on a very busy roundabout and you can hear the traffic from the terrace and the rooms on the street side

+ large lockers in the rooms which can fit your rucksack
+ small lockers by reception
+ all lockers contain a plug socket so you can leave your valuable phone / laptop charging

Price per dorm bed: 36 soles upwards, depending on the number of beds (en suites and privates available). The prices are quite high but Pariwana is certainly a top end hostel

+ buzzer entry to front door
+ security guard at front door
+ 24 hour reception
+ guests are given a key to the dorm
+ guests a given a wristband and all staff wear a Pariwana t-shirt, so it is difficult for random people to enter without being noticed and questioned

Welcome: All reception staff speak English and are always friendly. They will help with whatever they can, providing directions and maps. They make an effort to remember your name which is impressive in such a large hostel

The staff organise drinking games at the bar most evenings and this is a great place to party. However it is not exclusively a ´party hostel´ and if you want to go to bed early you can too – somehow Pariwana manages to create an atmosphere that suits everyone

Wifi: yes
– doesn’t reach all the rooms
+ computers available

Extras: Pariwana has thought of everything, down to the smallest detail, such as putting hooks on every bunk so you have somewhere to hang your wet towel. The beds are made every day, the rooms have air conditioning, the bathrooms are continually cleaned thoroughout the day, food is served all day, there is a phone that is free to use. The huge roof terrace has comfy seating, table tennis and computers. They offer a taxi service, luggage storage, a travel agency and a same-day laundry service. Pariwana is a model hostel!

Stars: ***** I award  Pariwana 5 stars. Top marks. I love this place!

Address: 189 Avenida Larco, Miraflores, Lima, Peru

Tip: Ask for room 15, because it is away from the honking horns of the traffic and the music of the roof terrace. It has its own little sun-drenched patio with benches.
