Review: Yakumama Hostal, Cuenca, Ecuador

I stayed for three nights at Yakumama hostel in Cuenca. You can read about my time in Cuenca here.

Breakfast
– included but quite small. Just two pieces of bread, with tea or coffee.
+ extras available to purchase
+ delicious fresh juice
– no guest kitchen

Hot water: yes
+ the showers are really powerful

Location:
+ two blocks from the main square
+ little shops, restaurants, a bank and a launderette / lavanderia nearby

Lockers
+ small lockers in the room

Rooms: I stayed in the 10 bed dorm which had a brilliant view but was a little drafty. There aren’t any curtains

so bring an eye mask to avoid being woken up by the sun. The single beds have double duvets which is a real treat in a hostel, and it was nice to not be in a bunk bed!

Price per dorm bed: 8 dollars upwards, depending on the number of beds. Privates also available.

Security
+ buzzer entry

Welcome: The owners and the bar staff speak English and were friendly

Wifi: yes
+ several networks throughout the hostel so you are never too far from the router and are always connected

Extras: internal garden with a skate ramp, TV room with hammocks, bar/restaurant (closed on Sundays)

Stars: *** I award Yukumama Hostel 3/5 stars. Curtains in the roof terrace dorm are needed to stop the sun and the wind.

Yakumama hotel is a good choice of hostel in Cuenca. The location, security and price are what stood out for me.
